Elementary School Academic Achievements

We are delighted with our Year 6 results for the 2017/18 academic year. Well done to all the students for their hard work and good learning attitudes.

Overall attainment

At the end of each academic year our students undertake assessments in English and Maths using ‘GL Assessment Progress Tests’. These are standardised assessments that are widely used in the UK and international schools around the world. They enable us to measure the attainment and progress of our pupils against English National Curriculum objectives, and combined with ongoing teacher assessment, allow us a very good understanding of the standard of achievement of our students.

The tests provide us with an individual score from 59-141, with a score of 100 being the UK average. As you can see in the graph and table below, our Year 6 children performed very well this year with an average mark significantly higher than both the UK and International average score in English (112.6 compared to 100 in the UK and 101.1 internationally) and Maths (108.7 compared with 100 in the UK and 99.4 internationally).

English

When looking in more detail at the attainment of our Year 6 students in English, we can see that 92% of our students achieved a score of 100 or above. Furthermore, 63% of our students achieved a score above average or higher, and 28% scored well above the UK average. This compares very favourably to percentages in the UK where only 28% of children achieved above average scores and only 11% achieved well above average scores.

Math

When looking in more detail at the attainment of our Year 6 students in Maths, we can see that 98% of our students achieved a score of 100 or above. Furthermore, 44% of our students achieved a score above average or higher, and 22% scored well above the UK average. This compares very favourably to percentages in the UK where only 23% of children achieved above average scores and only 11% achieved well above average scores.

Comparison to English National Curriculum Statutory Tests (SATs)

The Progress Tests also provide a useful indicator as to how students would perform if they were to take the Y6 SATS in the UK. You will see above that our test results indicate that 86% of our students would achieve the expected standard in reading (compared to only 75% of students achieving this in the actual UK SATs this year ) with 43% achieving above the expected standard (compared to only 28% of students in the UK this year). In Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG), you will see 92% of our students would achieve the expected standard (compared to only 78% in the UK this year ) and 48% would achieve above the expected standard (compared to only 34% in the UK this year). In Maths, 86% of our students would achieve the expected standard (compared to only 76% in the UK this year) and 26% would achieve above the expected standard (compared to 24% in the UK).
