Carmei was born in England and spent her childhood in the countryside of East Sussex. As her mother comes from Malaysia she learned to speak fluent Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu growing up. Carmei has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from RMIT University, Australia, and a Primary Education PGCE from The University of Sunderland, England, along with certifications for CELTA and TEFL. Her international teaching career began in China and Japan where she taught elementary pupils for three years. Since then, Carmei has been playing an active role in facilitating and scaffolding the learning and development of children within the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 at a prestigious international school in Kuala Lumpur. Carmei is passionate about providing challenging and enriching learning environments that are tailored to pupil’s needs and interests. She believes that each child is unique and with the right nurturing is able to develop life-long learning skills. During her spare time, Carmei enjoys reading, scuba diving, skiing, hiking, and volunteering. She is excited to be part of SJIIM and looks forward to making many wonderful memories together.
