Growing up in Yorkshire, England, Shaun enjoyed a wide range of sports and outdoor activities as a child. His passion for rugby, cricket and football led him to study Sports and Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University. During this course, the opportunity to teach PE at a local school proved to be defining as it was the relationship that Shaun built with his year 6 class that inspired him to go on and become a teacher.
After spending a year travelling in Australia and New Zealand, enjoying surfing, bungee jumping and skydiving, Shaun returned to the UK and enrolled in a Primary PGCE at the University of Leeds. After successfully completing the course, he spent three years teaching Year 5 in Bradford, West Yorkshire whilst also leading the science and music subject. However, his passion for adventure began to take hold and in 2014, Shaun accepted a job at BSKL where he worked with year 4 and 2 before becoming the Head of Year 3 for his final year.
In 2017, Shaun returned to the UK so that his partner could train to be a teacher there. He spent two successful years teaching Year 6. He also led the curricular areas of science, music and computing at a small school in Liversedge, West Yorkshire. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time working in key stage 2 and especially enjoying the residential trips and the opportunity to lead a whole school production.
Outside of the classroom, Shaun enjoys football and running, nights spent at music concerts and adding lots of vinyl records to his ever growing collection. He is relishing the chance to experience new countries, new cities and most importantly lots of delicious Malaysian food!
