Mdm Mak Lai Ying Frances
It gives me great pleasure to introduce St Joseph’s Institution International Malaysia (SJIIM). The school was founded in 2016 and it offers the Early Years Foundation Stage all the way to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The school is guided by and committed to the Lasallian education philosophy to enrich the minds and touch the hearts of our students and to transform their lives.
The Early Years curriculum for students aged 3-5 follows the English Early Years programme. This will nurture and develop the whole child, preparing them for the next stage of their learning journey. Students in Y1-Y6 follow the stimulating and engaging International Primary Curriculum that is also based on the English National Curriculum. Additionally, students will learn Singapore Mathematics. Our rich language programme which includes daily Mandarin lessons, will prepare children for life in the 21st century globalised world.
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 undertake a Foundation IGCSE course based on the England and Wales National Curriculum. The Foundation IGCSE course is designed by our teachers and is international in its content. In Years 10 and 11 students undertake the very comprehensive International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) offered by Cambridge International Examinations, UK to prepare them well for the next stage of education. In Years 12 and 13 students undertake the IB Diploma. This is recognised around the world as a high-quality and well- rounded educational programme which offers students the opportunity to gain access to the best universities in the world.
In SJIIM, our staff immerse the students in a safe, comfortable and engaging environment for them to learn to be independent and inquisitive learners. The teachers also ensure that each student achieves his/her academic potential through carefully designed lessons and tasks that cater to their learning needs and styles.
Our virtues programme in the elementary school and character/well-being programme in the high school provide strong anchors and various platforms for students to learn and internalise important character attributes and to develop performance traits to embrace diversity and build prosocial relationships with different people.
The Lasallian core values of Service, Community and Faith provide a platform for our students to dedicate themselves to be involved in the community. The younger children provide service within the school community and are encouraged to take part in level/school wide community projects. The older students actively and meaningfully engage in service activities in the wider community as well as a variety of other projects that enhance self-awareness and develop life skills such as active listening, working in teams, leading others and making presentations.
The Lasallian philosophy emphasises that the best moment is always “here and now”. May we all treasure the “here and now” always and enjoy our time at SJIIM.
